Free local history resources for schools

We have a stock of publications which we are able to give away free of charge, thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The publications are available to collect from the Ouseburn Regeneration Centre on Spillers Quay at the mouth of the Ouseburn - the Activities Map on the top menu line shows its location.

Ouseburn Explorer Awards success!

OUSEBURN EXPLORER, our great family guide to Newcastle's fascinating Ouseburn Valley puts children in charge, and adults in the hot seat. It's also a great way to get to know our amazing valley informally if you're thinking of using our service - and lots more fun than a site visit! 

Now the guide has won Runner Up title in the prestigious 2010 BURA Waterways Renaissance Awards - so we're definitely worth checking out!

 
The four walks are designed to last up to an hour each. They focus on different aspects of the valley, exploring the area’s hidden history and the little river that gives the valley its name; even looking beyond the buildings to the creatures living in and around it, including Stepney Bank Stables’ famous horses.

Mad about Recycling!

Did you know recycling was in full swing in the Ouseburn 100 years ago? We're running environmental activity days in the spring term based on Ouseburn Farm's fantastic recycled building and some amazing stories about the valley's hidden past.
